Rex and Vickie Branson began wood carving at home in northeast Oklahoma during the 1980s. They travelled across the United States selling their work, entering and winning many carving competitions. Then, eventually teaching many people to carve wood. They enjoyed making western figures, Santa’s, Indians and horses.
In 1989, they made their way to Marble, Colorado and started sculpting white marble. The talented, hard working couple returned every year to the MARBLE/marble Symposium since. Along the way through life, they raised six children. In 2005, when Mario and Christy Villalobos built the new gallery in Marble, the Bransons put their prize winning wood collections there and moved to the sleepy mountain town.
Today, you can see the large marble horses, mountain lions, bears, and puzzle pieces in the sculpture yard at The Marble Gallery. They also make marble headstones and benches.
